Giulietti’s Italian Bakery

Giulietti’s Italian Bakery was permanently closed at the end of July of 2024. We want to thank all of our loyal customers , resellers and suppliers. It was a pleasure providing our traditional Italian cookies and biscotti to everyone in the Portland area and to our mail order customers around the country. We will be keeping the website up for the time being in case you need to contact us or to refer to any of our past postings. Grazie mille !!

Ciao

The following cookies were our main products when we were actively in business:

1. Ricciarelli - Almond based cookie with a zest of orange flavoring covered in powdered sugar. This cookie originated in Sienna, Italy. *Gluten free *“One Dozen” of this cookie is 14 cookies.

2. Pignoli  - Almond based cookie covered in pine nuts, originated in Sicily. Gluten free

3. Amaretti - Almond based cookie covered in sliced toasted almonds. Gluten free

4. Biscotti Regina  “Sesame Seed cookie” - This is a butter cookie covered with toasted sesame seeds and flavored with a hint of anise. Originated in Palermo, Italy.  One “dozen” of these is 14 cookies

5. Baci di Dama “Lady Kisses, Hazelnut kisses - This cookie originated in Tortona in the Piedmont region of Italy. Comes in a chocolate hazelnut version also.

*"One Dozen" of this cookie is 18 cookies.

6. Brutti ma Buoni “Ugly but Good” - These chocolate hazelnut meringue cookies have a crispy outside and soft, chewy inside with chunks of local Oregon hazelnuts.

7. The Rainbow Cookie, Flag Cookie, Tri-Color Cookie, or 7 Layer Cookie. Often referred to as a cookie, these are more of a cake. It is referred to by various names and its origins have been debated. They were most likely created on the East coast of the USA by Italian immigrants; however some sources credit a baker in Sicily for the novel recipe. This special cookie initially planted the seed for us to start baking.

It is a special order product as it is quite labor intensive (even more so than the others). We need a two week notice to bake these and the minimum order is 24 cookies.

8. Italian Wedding Cookies “Anginetti” - These buttery, powdered sugar covered treats are similar to Russian Tea Cakes or Mexican Wedding Cookies. We use local ground Oregon hazelnuts and a hint of vanilla in ours.
